Non-mandatory Accessories That Help Improve Racking Safety
Warehouse storage racking systems can be equipped with various non-essential (optional) accessories to improve safety, stability, storage efficiency, and handling convenience. Below are common auxiliary accessories and their purposes:
1. Wire Mesh Decking
Installed on beams to support cartons or loose items. It prevents goods from falling and improves fire safety and visibility.
2. Steel Panels
Placed on racking beams to create flat storage surfaces for non-palletized or small items.
3. Pallet Support Bars
Mounted between beams to reinforce pallet support, especially for weak or non-standard pallets.
4. Upright Protectors
Installed at the base of uprights to protect rack columns from forklift impact.
5. End-of-Aisle Guards / Frame Barrier
Protect the ends of rack rows and prevent collisions in high-traffic areas.
6. Load Signs
Display maximum load capacities for beams, bays, and frames to ensure safe operation.
7. Guide Rails
Help guide forklifts into rack aisles, reducing collision risk and improving handling efficiency.
8. Back Mesh
Back mesh stops pallets or loose items from falling into adjacent aisles or work areas, protecting personnel and equipment. It allows light, airflow, and sprinkler water to pass through, supporting fire safety systems.
These optional accessories are not mandatory for basic racking operation but are highly recommended based on warehouse layout, forklift type, load characteristics, and safety requirements. Proper selection of accessories can significantly extend rack life and improve warehouse safety.
