What Is Double Deep Racking?
Double deep racking is a high-density pallet storage system designed to increase warehouse capacity without expanding the floor space. It places two pallets deep on each side of the aisle, allowing operators to store more goods while maintaining a relatively simple rack structure.
Key Features
1. Higher Storage Density
Compared with standard selective racking, double deep racking can increase storage capacity by 30%–50%, making it an ideal solution for warehouses with limited space but large inventory volume.
2. Operated by Special Forklifts
The system requires reach trucks equipped with double-deep forks to access the rear pallet positions.
3. LIFO Inventory Management
Because the rear pallet is accessed after removing the front one, this system mainly follows a LIFO (Last In, First Out) principle. It is best suited for products with low FIFO requirements.
4. Strong and Reliable Structure
The rack is composed of uprights, beams, bracing, and safety accessories. It looks similar to selective racking but offers double-depth pallet locations.
